AVG selling your information?

AVG will now start selling your information starting October 15, 2015

In September 2015, AVG released their new privacy policy which, effective October 15, 2015, makes clear that AVG will collect “non-personal data” such as “Browsing and search history, including meta data.” AVG claims it collects this data “to make money from our free offerings so we can keep them free.”

Since AVG isn’t clear what “non-personal” information they will be selling, we just don’t know how “personal” it just might get.  Regardless, it will bombard you with additional invasive advertising which no one wants or needs.

Therefore, we are no longer recommending the AVG Free product to our clients.  AVG does offer a paid version of their product but that may also be gathering and selling your information and, frankly, if you are going to pay for a protection, Kaspersky is a much better choice.

We have watched other free anti-virus products for many years and most of them don’t sufficiently protect you, require too much of your interaction or bury you under a ton of advertising.  We do not recommend Norton or McAfee due to it putting a target on your computer for the hackers to hone-in on and compromise your computer.
Due to AVG’s newly disclosed sales of information gathered from your computer, effective October 2015, we are recommending the Kaspersky Internet Security product instead of AVG Free and will be upgrading all of our clients who subscribe to one of our maintenance plans during their next maintenance cycle.

If you would like to try out Kaspersky, you can do so with a free trial from our website by clicking HERE.

Mad Dog is offering its clients who would like to purchase Kaspersky Total Security a 1 year subscription, with removal of the existing anti-virus (presumably AVG) and installation, configuration and updating of the Kaspersky Total Security 2016 software for a highly discounted in-shop price of $50.  This price also applies to any of our clients who subscribe to our LogMeIn remote assistance program.
