Google Chrome: Another nail in Windows XP’s coffin.

Google announced that it is discontinuing the support of Google Chrome for Windows XP and Windows Vista effective April of 2016.

What this means is that Windows XP has lost Windows updates, Internet Explorer updates, updates for all Adobe products and will soon lose Google Chrome support as well. Firefox, the last major web browser, has not announced their plans for Windows XP but, with Firefox’s share of the web browser market dropping below 10%, it doesn’t look like a promising option. Without frequent updates, it becomes more and more difficult to prevent Mal-Ware from getting into your computer.

What can you do?  The choices are:

  1. Do nothing and hope for the best.  This option rarely works out well with anything in life, including computers.

  2. Upgrade to Windows 7.  This version of Windows will be supported by Microsoft and other software manufacturers until AT LEAST April of 2020.  By that time, you would probably want a new computer anyway. Google Chrome and other browsers still work with this version of Windows.

  3. Buy a new computer with Windows 10.  This version of Windows will be supported by Microsoft and other software manufacturers until AT LEAST April of 2025.  New Windows 10 computers come with compatible browsers including Google Chrome.

Regardless of the option you choose, Mad Dog Computer is here to help you.
